Manual Foot Therapy (MFT): The Hiss-Tikker Method - 3pm - 6pm
MFT Presented by Peter Guy B.Sc., D.Ch.
Peter Guy, B.Sc., D.Ch. Peter Guy has been practicing as a chiropodist for 40 years and performing MFT for 20 years. He started teaching manual foot therapy techniques in 2015.
This hands-on workshop introduces the benefits of manual foot therapy and the biomechanics behind it, tracing the osteopathic lineage from Andrew Still, MD, through John Hiss, DO, MD, and Rue Tikker, DPM and connecting it to modern evidence from the Nester bone-pin and cadaver gait studies and the Kelly group's research on the plantar intrinsics, the windlass, and the arch-spring mechanism.
What the workshop covers
•Why MFT works
• Foot and ankle mechanics
• Assessment skills
• Treatment techniques
• Clinical application and safety MFT benefits
• Improved dynamic joint stiffness so the foot can elongate and recoil for propulsion
• Better lymphatic drainage and circulation in the foot and ankle
• Reduced supination resistance before casting or after orthotic dispensing
• Improved balance in older patients through restored ankle strategy and proprioception
• Reduced joint stiffness in diabetic patients
