Photodisinfection for onychomycosis: Science and Treatment
Photodynamic therapy combines a photosensitizer and exposure to light. This technique is used worldwide in oncology, and in recent years has gained quick traction in Europe for dermatological indications. It has emerged as an attractive option for clinicians seeking a non-invasive topical treatment for patients suffering from microbial infections including bacteria, protozoa, and fungi. In this talk, Dr. Van-Ham discusses the principles of photodisinfection for treatment of onychomycosis and will share insights of recent research clinical trials which were conducted in Ontario in collaboration with McMaster University and Hamilton Foot Clinic.
